Kat Long
Hi, I'm Kat Long. I'm the author of The Forbidden Apple: A Century of Sex and Sin in New York City, a social history of sexual expression in New York City from the 1870's to the present, with an emphasis on the previously unexamined role of religious and social reformers in the development of sexual subculture.
I was editor-in-chief of the New York Blade, the city's only gay-owned LGBT newspaper, until it ceased publication in June 2009. Before that I was the managing editor of GO, a New York-based LGBT magazine.
My articles have appeared in the Village Voice, the Advocate, Playgirl, Bust, the New York Blade, the Washington Blade, Out Traveler, Women's E-news, the Gay and Lesbian Review and others. I also contributed to the Encyclopedia of Gay Folklife (scheduled for 2010).
I graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1997 with a BA in Creative Writing and History. Now I'm a grad student in the history program at Hunter College at the City University of New York.
